May 2019

This publication analyzes trends in global violent deaths based on data from 2004 to 2017 and provides possible scenarios for the period up to 2030. Key findings include 1) that 2017 witnessed the second highest annual rate of violent deaths in the period since 2004; 2) most of this increase was caused by homicides in non-conflict settings, especially in South and Central America; 3) this increase could mark the start of a deterioration of the global outlook for violence reduction, and more.
