This paper analyzes information on small arms and light weapons (SALW) transfers reported to the UN Register of Conventional Arms (UNROCA) for 2003–2006. It gives a brief overview of the existing intergovernmental and national transparency reporting mechanisms on SALW transfers and outlines the origin and rationale for UNROCA. The author provides a breakdown of states that responded to the UN’s request to submit information on international transfers of SALW and analyzes the submitted data.
