This brief examines plans by the government of India for the expansion of the national railway freight network between Delhi and Mumbai and Ludhiana and Kolkata. It introduces the basic features of the project, looks at related investment projects and identifies already existing industrial areas. Subsequently, the paper reviews issues related to the implementation of the project.
