This paper analyzes the budget presented by Pakistan's coalition government, commenting on the broader macroeconomic framework and economic policy initiatives. It outlines the budget's highlights, assesses the impact of the international energy and food crisis and addresses issues related to fiscal and monetary policy, growth and investment and the social sector. The author states that the budget has set modest targets but remains largely rhetorical and it is unlikely that the coalition partners will stick to them.
