This paper looks at the Indian labor market, commenting on functioning and efficiency of its employment exchanges. It reviews the scattered and limited information available about employment and unemployment, reviews history and organization of the employment exchanges and describes the respective government policy. The author argues that since revamping is pointless, India's public employment exchanges should be scrapped.
