This paper discusses the relationship between violence among European youth, Islamist ideology and al-Qaida. With the aim of examining the roots of terrorism, the author deconstructs the often-made link between youth violence and Islamism. He argues that the success of Osama bin Laden is not the establishment of a modern and efficient Islamist political organization, but inventing a narrative that could allow rebels without a cause to connect with a cause.
