This paper addresses changes in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and other western militaries regarding force structure and force utilization concepts. It uses the second Lebanon war as case study to examine limitations inherent in standoff fire capability. The author argues that this tactic by itself is incapable of bringing the enemy to strategic collapse.
