This paper examines rapprochements in China-Japan and Japan-South Korea relations that have raised hopes for a trilateral mechanism in dispute-torn Northeast Asia. The author argues that if this reconciliation process is successful, it would serve as the first step toward regional integration of the three biggest economies in East Asia, with major implications for ASEAN.
