This paper argues that while the world was transfixed on the opening of the Beijing Olympic Games, Russia launched an incursion into Georgia. The latter's push to reclaim South Ossetia, the author states, fit perfectly into Russia's geostrategic plans. Further, he argues that Moscow clearly plans to control the destiny of its immediate neighborhood.
