This paper explains the political behavior of military organizations in Southeast Asia, particularly focusing on Indonesia. It discusses the relations between the executive and the military, giving an overview of the different patterns of military self-conception and portrayal. Furthermore, it presents cases where the military opposed, controlled or supported the executive's policies using the relations between Indonesia's presidents and its military to exemplify.
