The main article of this issue examines the reasons for the renunciation of al-Qaida’s beliefs and doctrine. The paper looks at the deradicalization program established by Indonesian authorities; the high stakes battle of Musa Qala, the remote district of northern Afghanistan; al-Qaida’s efforts to target African-American Muslims for recruitment; the Taliban’s propaganda tactics in Pakistan’s tribal areas and the government's ineffective "peace deals"; and the problem of Islamist militancy in Morocco.
