This paper is an in-depth research project into the phenomenon of the Islamic fundamentalist evoking the powerful symbolism involved in religious doctrine to impart his warped message of militancy. Messages of Osama bin Laden are considered as the archetypical fundamentalist extremist, but with a view to finding points of departure from religious sources, particularly in the classical literature of Islam. The author aims to differentiate between Islamic and fundamentalist beliefs as separate entities.
