This publication argues that the Australian government should prioritize developing an effective, open and honest national security strategy that covers the nation as a whole, as well as a new parliamentary committee for effective oversight of the proposed national security strategy function. The text's author also contends 1) that Australia has avoided treating defense issues with an appropriate level of analysis for too long; 2) what passes for the country’s security strategy has focused on defense and counter-terrorism to the exclusion of almost everything else; 3) the world has changed dramatically, and Australia’s policies, funding, defense posture and national resilience need to adapt accordingly, and more.
