This paper points to the danger that a worsening economic performance might negatively affect climate policy and climate change negotiations. It identifies the challenges related with global warming, reviews the expected impact on Singapore and its region and discusses the adverse effects of the international financial crisis undermining the political will to tackle climate change. The author expects that the immediate need to promote economic recovery is likely to take precedence over the longer term benefits of reducing man-made carbon emissions.
