This paper assesses value and meaning of the pre-execution statements issued by three of the convicted Bali bombers before the backdrop of Islamic belief and customs. It introduces the content of these statements, reviews the reactions of the international Muslim community and discusses the guilt of the Bali bombers. The author concludes that the three are guilty by their own admissions and that their death will not render them martyrs.
