This commentary discusses the argument that the Indonesian military could follow the coup path of the Thai military. The author rejects the idea and argues that the military in Indonesia has neither the norms, capacity nor opportunity to launch a coup. He suggests that any military political intervention can be avoided in Indonesia by having a new balance between the officer corps, political leadership and civilian defense community.
