This brief focuses on three issues relevant to the long-term development of the climate regime: the fragmentation of negotiations and governance systems; the control and evaluation of novel types of privatized and market-based governance mechanisms; and the architectures for global adaptation governance. The authors find, among others issues, that climate governance could be strengthened with increased cross-institutional coordination, especially between the UN climate regime and the world trade regime.
