This article discusses Turkey’s difficult relationship with the EU, particularly over its long-standing bid to join the Union. After first examining some of events which have soured relations between the two sides, such as the response of some Western leaders to the July 2016 coup attempt in Turkey, the text’s author then recommends ways to rebuild the ties between Ankara and Brussels.
