This paper discusses China's anti-piracy mission in the Gulf of Aden. The author argues that the expedition is likely to prompt new Chinese activism in maritime non-traditional security issues closer to home. Nonetheless, the paper cautions that China still has territorial disputes with many of its maritime neighbors, making it unlikely that it will strive for any real leadership role in this area.
