This paper discusses changes to Indonesia's electoral system ahead of the country's elections in 2009. The author argues that the new system, which requires legislative candidates to win their parliamentary seats through a majority of votes in their electoral districts and effectively abolishing the party list system, could be detrimental for Indonesia's fledgling democracy. Furthermore, it makes the results of the 2009 elections very difficult to predict.
