This paper examines the legal and security challenges US President Barack Obama faces in fulfilling his intention to close the Guantanamo detention facilities. The author provides an overview of the events that led to the June 2008 Boumediene vs Bush ruling of the Supreme Court, which criticized the Bush administration's policy and the administration's response.
