This paper discusses the 2008-2009 gas dispute between Russia and the Ukraine. The authors examine Russia's stance on natural gas to the EU, Gazprom's monopolistic behavior and the limits to Russian energy resources and infrastructure. They conclude that if Russia does not reverse its policy, the EU will have to reduce its energy demand and work toward energy diversification.
