In 2017, India’s Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court indicted three government officials for their role in the improper allocation of coal mines during former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's time in office. This paper reviews some of the specifics of the case and argues that the court’s controversial decision to absolve the former prime minister in the case raises serious questions about good governance in India and the accountability of government leaders.
