This paper gives a brief overview of India's current political landscape, introducing the key parties, political figures and strategies which will play a role in India's 15th general elections in April and May 2009. The author finds it hazardous to anticipate the outcome of the forthcoming general elections in the world's largest democracy, yet argues that the two largest political parties in the country - the Congress and the BJP - will likely obtain between 120 seats and 140 seats each in the 543-member Lok Sabha. With the combined totals, they may not be able to cross the halfway mark of 272 MPs.
