This brief addresses a Chinese-Indian naval stand-off in the Gulf of Aden, highlighting its general security implications. It looks at China and India upgrading their naval forces, their growing will to assume a more visible international profile and perceptions of the other's strategy and interests. The author argues that both countries need to recognize that it is impossible in the modern globalizing world to sustain exclusive spheres of influence.
