This paper examines the impact of the global economic crisis on India's 15th general elections of April/May 2009. It summarizes the impact of the crisis on India's economic growth, savings and investments and fiscal policy and contrasts that with the policies of the outgoing United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government. The author argues that these elections are in interregnum during which substantive economic reforms seem unlikely.
