This brief discusses the backgrounds of the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore, Pakistan on 3 March 2009. The paper outlines the course of the events, asks who might be behind it and explores whether the political crisis in Punjab has provided a supportive environment for the terrorists. The author argues that Pakistan’s reputation as a failed state, as the epicenter of terrorism and as a society dissipating under the weight of corruption and fanaticism will only be reinforced by the attack.
