This paper examines the confrontation of Chinese and US naval vessels in China's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in early 2009. The author examines the legal aspects of EEZs and explains the rights of foreign vessels to operate within these areas. He argues that EEZs allow naval military operations of other countries.
