This paper explores the impact of drug use on human development in Africa. It analyzes the impact of drugs on agriculture, youth, health and education, and considers the role of drugs in fueling African conflicts. It argues that given the capacity of drugs to impact a number of developmental areas and exacerbate crime, addressing the drug problem is an important step in enhancing the capacity of African states to deal with development challenges and prevent conflicts.
