This issue of Canadian Military Journal (CMJ) addresses Canada's renewed naval presence in the Arctic and historical efforts made to limit the use of force in international relations. Further, it elaborates on the establishment of the Multinational Standby High Readiness Brigade for UN Operations (SHIRBRIG) and provides an analysis of the linkage between piracy and terrorism. This publication also traces development of the Distant Early Warning line from western Alaska to Greenland, the historiography surrounding Canadian operations during the Normandy landings of World War II, and the issue of Canadian neutrality in world affairs.
