This publication argues that the Trump administration’s push for a Saudi-led, anti-Iranian “Arab NATO" is emblematic of an increasingly destabilizing and militarized US policy toward the Middle East. The author suggests that while the US and the members of such an alliance would profit from this venture, it could 1) plummet the region into further chaos; 2) further harm European stability; 3) threaten Asia’s economy and security, and more. With the relocation of the so-called Islamic State from the Middle East to Asia, and Iran’s emergence as a natural ally to combat Wahhabi fanaticism, the Saudi-led alliance may also have the unintended consequence of galvanizing Eurasian actors into coalescing against further war and destruction.
