This issue of CTTA examines the ongoing international struggle against the so-called Islamic State (IS) and its global affiliates. The featured articles focus on 1) the need for both an effective counter-ideological response to IS and greater efforts to address the socio-economic and political issues that have enabled the organization to expand its influence; 2) the virtues of adopting a blended High Value Targeting (HVT) approach to deal with hybrid threats such as IS; 3) the latter group’s manipulation and exploitation of ‘Hijrah’ to benefit its own political and military agenda; and 4) the role and function of women within IS.
