This brief examines the failed efforts to end the current civil war in South Sudan and the subsequent spillover of the conflict into the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). After establishing the relevant regional context, the brief’s author 1) explores the cross-border dynamics of South Sudan’s escalating conflict since the ARCSS’s collapse, with a particular focus on the DRC, and 2) speculates on the likely trajectory of future conflict in South Sudan.
