The four articles in this edition of the CTC Sentinel focus on 1) a case study on Bryant Neal Viñas, the first American to be recruited by al-Qa`ida after 9/11; 2) how the Yemeni Houthi rebels succeeded in increasing their military power through a combination of Iranian support and by capturing arsenals of weapons from Yemen government forces; 3) how government institutions in the US and other countries treat female terrorist-related offenders more leniently than their male counterparts, and 4) how political turmoil in Iraq risks taking the focus of political leaders away from clearing militants, including the so-called Islamic State, from the Hamrin mountain range. The edition also includes an interview with the US Customs and Border Protection’s Commissioner Kevin McAleenan.
