Dec 2019

The articles of this edition of the CTC Sentinel focus on 1) the August 2019 terrorist attack that targeted the Hispanic community at a Walmart in El Paso in the US as well as what it highlights about global right-wing terrorism; 2) the October 2019 shootings in Halle, Germany, in which a synagogue was targeted, and what it demonstrates about the evolution of right-wing terrorism; and 3) the 2016 Copenhagen ‘Matchstick’ terror plot, a failed conspiracy in which a so-called Islamic State actor based in Syria connected with and directed two Syrian refugees living in Sweden and Germany online. The publication also includes an interview with Lieutenant General John Shanahan, the director of the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center at the US Department of Defense.
