This article contends that UK’s Home Office is undermining the potential for trust in the Brexit negotiations due to its treatment of EU citizens living in the UK. For example, the author outlines how the Home Office is reportedly 1) sending letters to EU citizens residing in the UK which threaten them with detention and expulsion from the country irrespective of their immigration status; 2) creating administrative obstacles that prevent non-British EU citizens from applying for documents that prove their immigration status in the UK; 3) reinterpreting national law on citizenship to hinder EU citizens from naturalizing in the UK, and more.
