As Western states increasingly flirt with protectionist trade policies, this commentary wonders whether China might emerge as the next champion of globalization. While Beijing currently lacks the requisite expertise to spearhead such a drive, the text’s author believes its ‘exemplary’ behavior as a member of all major multinational institutions has demonstrated its conscientious commitment to economic internationalism.
