This paper reviews the evolution of Boko Haram from its inception up to the present. In particular, the text’s author discusses 1) Boko Haram's humble beginnings in the city of Maiduguri, which is located in the northeastern corner of Nigeria; 2) the group's defeat by the Nigerian government in 2009 and its subsequent resurgence in 2010; 3) the changes in operational tactics which the group adopted in 2013; and 4) the status of Boko Haram today.
