As the number of long-term refugees continues to grow, this commentary ponders how governments might adopt ‘temporary social and economic integration measures’ in order to help rebuild refugees’ lives. One option is to tap into the economic potential of refugees during their displacement period. Such a step would 1) alleviate pressures on service providers and reduce fiscal strains; and 2) assuage social tensions by producing economic gains.
