This issue of CTTA focuses on the so-called Islamic State’s (IS) activities in the Middle East and their potential impact on international counterterrorism efforts. The featured articles specifically examine 1) the negative impact of the war in Iraq-Syria on IS media operations; 2) the group’s reliance on the enlistment of children to secure its short and long-term aims; 3) the roles being played by peace and development actors in preventing and countering violent extremism; and 4) the potential benefits of relying on a risk assessment framework that could cripple terrorism financing networks in Southeast Asia and Australia.
