This report analyzes the regional and domestic drivers behind South Sudan’s ongoing political crisis, particularly in the post-July 2016 period. The report specifically looks at 1) how Khartoum and Juba reshaped their relations after 2011; 2) Uganda’s and Sudan’s intervention in South Sudan’s civil war; 3) the status of the August 2015 Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCSS), both locally and outside the country; and 4) the condition of the Transitional Government of National Unity in South Sudan and the armed and unarmed opposition groups within the country.
