The four articles in this edition of the CTC Sentinel focus on 1) the career of Major General Qassem Soleimani, the long-serving head of Iran’s Quds Force, and how he contributed to Iran’s regional ascendancy through the fashioning of a unique strategy of blending militant and state power; 2) a case study on how cooperation among European countries led to the dismantling of a terrorist network on the continent; 3) the terrorist threat to Tajikistan, and 4) how the so-called Islamic State is adopting a ‘long war’ narrative in its propaganda as its self-declared caliphate crumbles. The edition also includes an interview with Patrick Skinner, a former CIA Case Officer in Afghanistan and Iraq.
