This paper examines the current global trade regime and the growing protectionist sentiments it is facing. As the text’s author sees it, the rise of distributed manufacturing has induced a strong negative reaction in America and Europe. The pushback has manifested itself in increased calls for new tariffs and a growing hostility to regional trade agreements such as the TPP and RCEP.
