So, how will the UK’s official request to leave the EU impact the way European countries organize their defense policies? The authors of this commentary believe the effect on the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) will be limited and that NATO might benefit from a deeper UK commitment, as might other arrangements. In the end, however, there will be greater fragmentation in European defense, which will then weaken the political and military capacity of Europe’s states to act.
