This piece analyzes the potential impact North Korea’s continued investment in IRBM and SLBM capabilities might have on the US and China. Given Pyongyang’s tireless commitment to missile augmentation, the text’s author argues that the deployment of US missile defense systems in South Korea is virtually inevitable. Beijing may deplore such deployments but if it’s not prepared to implement strict sanctions on rocket fuel and fuel production exports, which would be in keeping with previous UN Security Council Resolutions, its objections will fall on deaf ears.
