This publication provides an overview of the trends in international arms sales, based on SIPRI’s extensive Arms Industry Database. Key insights include 1) that the arms sales of the world’s 100 largest arms-producing and military services companies totaled $398.2 billion in 2017; 2) this was an increase of 2.5% compared with 2016 and marks the third consecutive year of growth; 3) overall growth in arms sales of the top 100 in 2017 was driven by increases in arms procurement spending by several states, in particular the US and Russia; and more.
