This commentary examines the responses to the Indonesian government’s recent recommendation to legally prohibit the Islamist group Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI). While some observers have criticized the proposal as a violation of the freedom of expression and assembly, this author argues that the move may be a wise one, especially given the group’s strong presence on university campuses.
