This publication argues that countries in the Asia-Pacific region might be able to finesse nuanced economic and security polices with both the US and China instead of opting for an all-or-nothing approach with just one of the powers. In fact, the author points to examples of countries like Australia and New Zealand already doing so; fostering free trade agreements with China, while simultaneously deepening security cooperation efforts with the US. The piece concludes with a recommendation for Asia-Pacific states to work together and support each other in traversing the uncertain contemporary economic and security landscapes.
