According to this paper, EU trade policy is at a crossroads. That’s because the global system is being tested by emerging powers, more intense competition, and a growing shift from multilateral agreements to regional and bilateral ones. In response, Brussels should use its economic power to develop and promote trade standards that continue to stress its values (global welfare, democracy, environmental protection, labor rights, etc.).
