Given that new digital technologies continue to alter the way we conduct elections, this brief examines how government officials and NGOs might 1) protect election systems from online threats; 2) deter cyber interference with such systems; and 3) reassure citizens that their right to vote is being protected. Achieving these objectives, however, will require local, national, and international efforts to strengthen cybersecurity in election systems and ‘increase the ‘integrity of cybersecurity policies, human rights activities, and election assistance and monitoring.
